Local Attractions
While we offer many activities at the Far East Beach, there are also many local events and tourist attractions in the area.
Within Walking Distance
1. Potomac South Tours and Charter fishing: Captain Dan offers tours of the area, including the Piney Point lighthouse, fish-filled pound nets, Historic St. Mary's City, the Skipjack, and destination cruises to the Moorings Restaurant and Evans Restaurant. Or take a fishing trip and catch the evening's dinner, we'll even help you cook it! (See him in action on youtube).
2. Piney Point lighthouse: About 4 miles from the campground, it is an easy distance for adults to ride a bike or drive to see. This historic park has beautiful grounds for strolling, a museum and gift shop, and a pier.
3. Evans Seafood Restaurant: About 1.5 miles from the campground, Evans Restaurant is a great place for dinner. Captain Dan also offers cruises to the restaurant for those who want to see the island from a different point of view.
A Short Jaunt
1. St. Mary's River Concert Series: Go by sea with Captain Dan, or by land (about a 30 min. drive), this concert series is free to the public. With the Chesapeake Orchestra, the concerts range from classical to musicals and jazz, and feature prominent artists from around the country. Located on the grounds of St. Mary's College of Maryland, the concerts are held right next to Historic St. Mary's City.
2. Sotterly Plantation: Take guided tours of this national historic landmark, or attend one of their popular wine tastings. Takes about 40 min. to drive.
